If joining fails when you open the team invitation you were sent, what you need to do depends on the message shown on screen. Below are six common messages and the fix for each one.
Symptom
Clicking the invitation link opens the Join Team page. The page first shows Accepting invitation…. If all goes well, you see You joined the team!, followed by a Your role: line and a Go to Marketplace button.
When joining fails, a red warning appears instead of those messages. Read the warning text and go to the matching section below.
Note: if you are not signed in when you open the invitation link, you are redirected to the sign-in page first. After signing in, go back to your email and click the invitation link again.
"This invitation was not found. It may have been cancelled."
Reason: The invitation ID or security key in the link is not recognised. The most common cause is a link that was copied incompletely or got broken.
What to do:
- Click the link in the email directly, without copying and pasting it.
- If the warning persists, ask your team admin to send a new invitation.
Note: an invitation your team admin removed with Cancel invite from the Pending invitations list on the Settings › Team Management screen does not produce this warning — it produces the "This invitation has already been accepted." warning described below.
"This invitation has expired. Ask your team admin for a new one."
Reason: Invitations have a validity period. Once it lapses, the link no longer works.
What to do:
- Contact your team admin.
- On the Settings › Team Management screen, have your admin enter your address in the Invite a member section and send a new invitation with Invite.
- When the new invitation email reaches you, click the link.
"This invitation has already been accepted."
Reason: This invitation is no longer a pending one. There are two situations in which you see this warning: the invitation has already been used (most often you, or a teammate using the same address, clicked the link more than once — joining was already completed on the first click), or your team admin removed the invitation with Cancel invite.
What to do:
- Sign in to your account.
- Open the Settings › Team Management screen and check whether your name appears in the member list.
- If it appears in the list, there is nothing to do — you are already part of the team.
- If it does not appear, ask your team admin for a new invitation.
"This invitation was sent to a different email address."
Reason: An invitation only opens for the user signed in with the email address it was sent to. You are currently signed in with a different account.
What to do:
- Check which address received the invitation email.
- Log out of the current session and sign in with the account belonging to that address.
- Click the invitation link again.
- If you do not have an account for that address, ask your team admin to send a new invitation to the address you do use.
"This invite link is missing required parameters."
Reason: The link was copied incompletely. When email content is copied and pasted, the information at the end of the address is easily broken.
What to do:
- Click the link in the email directly; do not type the address by hand or copy it in pieces.
- If your email program breaks the link, try viewing the message in a browser and clicking from there.
- If the problem continues, ask your team admin for a new invitation.
"Could not accept the invitation. Please try again or contact support."
This is a generic warning and points to a temporary glitch. Refresh the page; the invitation is re-accepted every time the page loads. If the warning persists, contact the support team.
A quick reminder for admins
The Invite a member section on the Settings › Team Management screen is only visible to the user signed in as the company Owner; other team members cannot see it.
Seats are filled by team members and pending invitations combined. Once all seats are taken, the Invite button becomes inactive and the warning All seats are taken. Upgrade your plan or free a seat to invite a new member. appears. To free a seat, you can remove a team member or cancel a pending invitation.
